2018 Eye Open Recap (22nd Annual)

Low clouds and calm winds greeted golfers at the Eisenhower Golf Course at the beautiful Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs on June 18th.

Dr. Jim Barad with
EverythingForSight.org teamed up with the SEE THE FUTURE Fund for the third consecutive year.  High schools from up-and-down the Front Range of Colorado joined adults  of all ages for a fun day on the links.

Mr. Derek Riemer, a 2013 SEE THE FUTURE recipient, CU-Boulder graduate and new Google employee, was part of the Eye Open this year and graciously greeted all the golfers on hole #3.  Thank you Derek!

Results of the 22nd Annual Eye Open:

The Optic Cup / Optic Bear Shootout
All adult teams played for the coveted Optic Cup (1st place trophy) and Optic Bear (2nd place trophy).

The defending 2017 Icon Eye Care team of Dr. Travis Whitt, Mr. Nick Dosen, Dr. Ben Sturdy and Mr. Chris McGriff shot a 11 under 61 to re-claim the Cup for another year.

The  team of  Mr. Lowell Beadles, Mr. Ed Maloney, Mr. Mark Holly & Mr. Jimmy Woods shot a 10 under par 62 to capture the equally impressive, but much cuter, Optic Bear.

Students for Students Challenge
The Students for Students Challenge featured 9 teams from Colorado's front range. Each team consisted of 3 high school golfers and 1 coach.

Arvada West High School took home top honors, winning in a tiebreaker over 2nd place Discovery Canyon (Colorado Springs). Both teams blistered the AFA Blue Course shooting a 13 under 59.

Special thanks to all students and coaches for being a part of the 2018 Eye Open!
